The Category Definitions page found under System info is designed to help you understand what categories of websites exist within the system.
The list shows all categories available in SchoolProtect with some additional information regarding their type.
The first column simply shows the category name.
The second column "Grouping" specifies what nature of the category. Where the Grouping shows "Custom", the category has been specially created for SchoolProtect and will not exist in a different filtering product you may have used elsewhere.
Custom categories are designed to help split large general categories into smaller categories to be used more easily in educational settings.
For example, the category Drugs would be the standard category found elsewhere but is extremely broad. Here, it has been split into three custom categories:
Drugs - Debate, Drugs - Illegal, Drugs - Prescribed
This allows schools to allow access to some types of information without allowing access to inappropriate information.
The third column provides a description of each category. Some are quite straightforward but some categories need this explanation in order to help you manage the filtering rules in the most appropriate fashion.
The last column shows the category ID. This information will not be relevant most of the time but where a query arises around some specific issue, the category ID may be relevant when raising a support issue or doing some troubleshooting.
